Give importance to local films

Dear Editor,

Bollywood movies are not depended on the local and regional papers for advertisements and so on. But it is the local film producers who actually need support of the media for mass communication. I believe our local films can be developing one or the other day in this state and in the region.

Without going in details about the mode of publication and other things around, I want local media, including print media to give importance to local films as the Manipuri papers are giving prime concern on their local films.

Like other Arunachalees, I too want to see the Arunachal boys and girls as sportsman, pop star singer, musician and actors. And when we have some local upcoming artists then it must be our prime concern to uplift, encourage and appreciate them.

We have been anticipating Er. Ibrahim Pajing's next venture because his first release "AATI¬PEYING" was so socialistic and realistic, which successfully hit the two states --  Adi  areas including other communities in Arunachal and in Mishing areas  in  Assam.  Concerning the film, it has a daring courage to pass a message to the society concerning matrimony both male and female. Such film was never produced before and now it is worth a volume of appreciation and admiration. Regarding the actor who I know was a good student from Boleng BK mission with a valedictory performance during his academic activities and now has become an actor with a message to all generations. I also urge the Adi people residing in the Capital complex to extend your support by watching the movie Gyargo-Pongkok, so as to pass the good message to the next generation. Let's watch the GYARGO PONGKOK.

They are spokespersons of decision makers

Dear Editor,

In 2005, during the National Games in Assam, the state government under the chief ministership of Tarun Gogoi invited performers from Hindi cinema. Two Hindi film actors, Salman Khan and Karishma Kapoor were invited by CM Tarun Gogoi for breakfast with him. Neither of the two bothered to accept the invitation. They didn’t turn up and left for Mumbai in the morning flight. If this is the treatment meted out to the chief minister of Assam by two mere entertainers of  Bollywood, how can the people of Assam expect the chief minister of the state to be strong enough to raise voice against mega dams?

Tarun Gogoi is the chief minister of Assam, one of the most prominent state in north-east India. It would be wild imagination to even think of ministers of Arunachal Pradesh oppose mega dams in that state. The chief ministers of fringe states like Assam and its neighbouring areas are puppets who are used as rubber stamps by the central government of India.

Unlike states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala which are blessed with strong and sincere leaders, ministers of north-east states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are mere spokespersons of the power companies and the decision makers in Delhi.

Yours,

Hayang Deuri

No true knowledge in spite of media boom

Dear Editor,

In the last few years we have seen media boom-- so many TV channels, newspapers, magazines, FM radio, etc. But where is the quality lost?

Also the focus is on silly matters.

TV ‘news’ shows the fights between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law, but  the news of disastrous  flood in Uttarakhand because of the Tehri dam on Tehri river is not shown.

We see the small trivial details of cricket players’ and film actors’ weddings. But we are kept away from real issues of concern where poor villagers in Pongging in Arunachal Pradesh were mercilessly beaten by armed forces in the months of May and June, because of their democratic mass protest against dams. Even old people women were not spared. One old woman’s clothes were torn apart by the Govt armed forces.

Ministers who own TV channels show their speeches which support dams. This makes their sponsors in the form of power companies and Sonia Gandhi happy. But we are not shown the news where two huge dams in USA has been blasted and broken because of the disasters caused by them. The removal of two dams on the Elwha River in America is not shown by the Govt of India and not talked about by the state govt.

This is the reality and triviality of the numerous media groups which are functioning all around us in the 21st century. We have to rely on our own reasoning power than on Govt owned media organizations in our region.

Yours,

A Silent Invasion !

Dear Editor,

This is with reference to Bhumi Upadhayaya’s letter “Spare Vijaynagar” in Arunachal Times on Nov 13. The original name of Vijaynagar is Nongkhung.

The present name Vijaynagar is given by Indian army with due permission of the central Govt. Just as we are giving up our native languages for Hindi, we have forgotten the roots of our place. This is the best example of  'Silent Invasion'.

Yours,

Lachit Tekseng

‘Bahua’ and ‘Barua’

Dear Editor,

Some change looks to be in the offing in Bangladesh. The appointment of Dilip Barua as minister of industries in the neighbouring country is a welcome change. In Bangladesh, 'Barua' means 'Bahua', the tribesmen in the Chittagong hill tracts. Most of the Jamatiya tribes are Buddhists. It is actually pronounced 'Bahua', means a Buddhist Jamatiya hill man. This shows that religious minorities are coming up to an extent.

In Assam, 'Barua' title is accorded to people who were administrators over 12 villages in a district. The word Barua is derived from 'Baro', meaning 12 in Assamese. Many Birtish school teachers wrote the title Barua in different ways like Borua, Baroa, Baruah, Boruah, Barooah, Boroa, etc. But the Assamese tongue pronounces it as Borua, however written.

Yours,

Rezaul Ahmed,

Lakhimi Nagar,
